We are going to start a new sharehouse in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, just a 2-minute walk from Omata Station. The area around Omata Station has everything you need, such as convenience stores, supermarkets, and a post office, within walking distance.
So, as we start this sharehouse in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, we would like to talk about:
“What kind of sharehouses we, Hidamari, manage and run?”
“What is the new sharehouse in Ashikaga Tochigi Prefecture like?”
First, we would like to introduce our “community-oriented sharehouse.”
What is a community-oriented sharehouse?
We manage and run sharehouses as “community-oriented sharehouse.”
Community-oriented sharehouse means a sharehouse that values communication and interaction among people.
There are many sharehouses in Tokyo, and we have seen and visited many sharehouses in Japan. Even though in a single word we could say “sharehouse,” there are various sharehouses, from very clean ones to dirty ones, and they are not exactly the same.
But, when we saw sharehouses in Tokyo, we sometimes thought,
“Is this really a sharehouse?”
The definition of sharehouse is very wide and can mean different things. We could say living and sharing a kitchen, living room, toilet, etc., is also a “sharehouse.”
However, we believe that the value of sharehouse lies elsewhere.
For example, we can encounter a new set of values and hear stories we have never heard before by sharing a space and interacting with various people.
As a result, it would create an opportunity to take a step forward into a new challenge.
Like this, the concept that our sharehouses value and actually implement is a community-oriented sharehouse.
What is Sharehouse Hidamari doing?
Next, we talk about specific features of Hidamari.
1. Family-type community
First, we create a family-type community.
Sharehouse Hidamari is a community that is neither family nor friends, yet it is a community with a mysterious relationship you feel among family and friends.
No need to fake oneself and let oneself be oneself.
We aim to create a place where people feel warm and comfortable just by being there and feel that “It’s okay for me to be here.”
2. Crossroads of life
Secondly, we aim to be a crossroads of life where one can interact with various people.
For example, people who love to play soccer would join a soccer club, and people who like to eat would look for good restaurants.
There is nothing wrong with getting along with people who have similar interests and favorite things. However, as we grow older, aren’t we more likely to mingle only with those kinds of people?
We don’t have so many opportunities to meet people whose hobbies, work styles, and lives are very different from our own compared to when we were a child or student.
Once you live in our sharehouse, you will find a hairdresser, a programmer, a musician, an entrepreneur, and a bartender…it is very diverse.
You can suddenly jump into a world you never intended to be a part of. You would feel, “I want to try it.” “I feel like I can do it.” and “If I try this, my life may change.”
That’s a sharehouse we aim to create.
3. We support your dream
The third is to support dreams of those who move into our sharehouse.
Once you move into our sharehouse, we are sure you will be exposed to everyone’s different values and perspectives on life, and you will think about your own life and gradually begin to have your own dreams and what you want to do in the future.
We hope you will be able to get some inspiration before you graduate from sharehouse life.
Also, one of the things that people often misunderstand is that “every day is a party at a sharehouse.” In reality, that is not true.
Sometimes you come home after a long day and don’t want to talk to anyone. But, after work, part-time job, or school, you come home, and then you take a bath and sit in the living room and talk about things like, “What are you doing this weekend?” and other small talks before going to bed.
We believe it is very fun to have someone you can go to talk to, even just for 30 minutes or an hour.
It may be just a little bit of time before bed on a regular day, a little bit of time with someone you can talk to. It may be just a little bit of time. But, we think that’s the best part of a sharehouse, and a magnet that our sharehouse has.
“I’m home.”
“Welcome home.”
“Hey, guess what? Today I had…blah blah blah…”
Like this, we try to create a place where constant interactions happen.
Why do we manage and run sharehouses?
The reason why we manage and run sharehouses is that we want to give and create opportunities for people to grow and focus on self-improvement through encounters and interactions with others.
In the three years that we have run sharehouses in Kumamoto Prefecture, we have met many different people. And at the same time, we feel that we have grown and expanded our sense of values.
We can see a world that we couldn’t see before, and we are surprised like, “There is a human like her/him!” At the same time, we feel the true value of sharehouses from the bottom of our heart.
We hope to create such a place in Tochigi Prefecture too.
“People can grow and be improved only by interactions with humans.”
What kind of people live in sharehouse?
People living in share houses vary widely, and it is difficult to categorize them by occupation or age.
For example, the residents currently living in our sharehouses are broad as follows.
・Managers and young entrepreneurs
・English teachers
・People working in the arts
Also, ages vary. Sharehouses generally have age restrictions such as “20-35 years old.” We run some sharehouses that can welcome a wide range of ages.
Many people often think, “Aren’t sharehouses mostly for students?” but actually it’s the other way around. In fact, there are very few students. I

Large terrace on the east side of the 2nd floor.
