Advantages of living in a Japanese-style room

「シェアハウス 和室」

Here are three advantages of living in a Japanese-style sharehouse/room:

・Feel the warmth of natural materials such as wood and Igusa from tatami-mats.
・You can put a futon on the floor instead of a bed
・It has humidity control and heat retention effects

It is perfect for those who prefer futons to beds, and the warmth of a Japanese-style room is sure to soothe your soul. It is also especially recommended for people who like tatami-floors and want to be in a very Japanese space.

Tatami also has a humidity control and heat retention effect, making it easier to maintain humidity. In winter, the floor is not as cold as wooden flooring, and in summer, it feels smooth due to its moisture release effect.

It is likely to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Disadvantages of living in a Japanese-style room

「シェアハウス 和室」

Here are two disadvantages of living in a Japanese-style sharehouse/room:

・Heavy furniture such as desks and drawers will scratch tatami
・Nightmare if you spill a drink or liquid on tatami

Tatami is very delicate, so placing heavy furniture on it may leave marks or damages.

Tatami is also vulnerable to soaking up liquids, making it difficult to clean up spills of milk, juice, or other odorous beverages. Unlike wood flooring, even if you wipe it off, it will not be completely removed.

If you spend time on tatami, you should pay more attention to the floor than in a wooden floored room.

How to find a sharehouse with Japanese-style rooms

「シェアハウス 和室」

There are some ways of finding a sharehouse with Japanese-style rooms like below:

・Directly tell your preference to management companies
・Use websites that allow you to refine your search by some keywords or “Japanese-style room” tag.

In addition to a Japanese-style room, inquire with a management company about other conditions of a sharehouse you are looking for. You can smoothly find a sharehouse that meets your needs.

Since the exchange of applications for previews and house-visit can also be processed without extra hassles, you can eliminate the need to search on your own.

We also recommend using other websites that allow you to narrow down your search by keywords or tags. It would take an enormous amount of time and effort to check if each and every sharehouse has a Japanese-style room.

It is much more efficient to use a website that allows you to set detailed criteria and search for sharehouses
