Born in Toronto, Canada, I worked at a software company. I came to Japan with a Working Holiday Visa and Hidamari was kind enough to take me in as their firstforeigner.
It was my first time living away from home in a country where I didn’t know anyone or the language very well. I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet some new friends. The price was also very reasonable.
The experience at Hidamari was amazing, there are too many for me to share. Eventhough everyone’s schedule was extremely busy, we would always find time to meet upand enjoy each other’s company over something as simple as dinner/drinks, a run to the supermarket to fireworks/festivals and going on a trip to Suginoi Hotel. There was always something to do together.
Living together, I learned that it is important to speak your mind when something is bothering you. Being open about everything helped strengthen the bond among the group. We were able to overcome a lot of obstacles because we were one team. This is what I learned from the experience and was something I had struggled with prior tocoming to Japan.
If you’re traveling alone or want to experience Japan with some locals, I highlyrecommend giving Hidamari a chance. They have certainly made me feel very welcomed and one of the reasons why I still come back to visit every year.
